Call it the "Gas Tower", "Gas Works" or "Gasometer", it is one the largest structures of this type in London, so large that it has been used as a marker for planes landing at Heathrow, further West, hence the "LH" painted on its side.
Imposing with it's twin, the Water Tower, it is finally due for demolition in 2017, to make way for extensive CrossRail developments in the area, and will be sadly missed by generations of current and former residents of Southall.
